A Whisper in the Night

This poem is dedicated to the orphaned children of Dorie's Promise in Guatemala Foreverchangedinternational.org

My prayer tonight seems but a whisper in the night

Not loud enough to shout through all the earth

For my prayers go out to those very far away

For those who are lost in a world that we will never hope or dream to know

A world without the blessings that we take for granted everyday

Disease, Poverty, Isolation, Loss

I can only pray that a lifetime of Despair will lead to an Eternity of Bliss

That all the innocents of this world who know only hardship will find a life of Peace and Prosperity

It is only a Prayer

A Whisper in the Night

But it is as powerful as a storm which sweeps across the land

Because within it lies the Spirit of Hope

For those who deserve a second chance in Life

Hello

We are living in the modern world of communication. Emails and text messaging allow us to be so much more productive in life. In the midst of a busy day at work or home I can text colleagues, my spouse, family or friends and get the information I need without ever really interrupting what I am at that moment trying to accomplish.  Even at the time that I am writing this blog, I am getting notifications from Facebook lol!
This modern world makes life so convenient, yet sometimes so complicated. It is no wonder why I feel so distracted and pulled in so many directions sometimes. My daughter recognizes this, and I've now heard her comment "Mama stop texting I am trying to tell you something!"
It is comments like this that are a wakeup call to my soul. What am I spending all this time doing? Hello??? Can we not be just here in the moment with the person or loved one that is right in front of us? Must we really be connected to the entire world through Facebook or some other social media network? I am just posing this question to myself or anyone who is actually reading this blog and feels the same way.
I sometimes wonder how people elsewhere in the world get things accomplished without access to these modern means of  communication.   But then, I realize that people in small villages far away are accomplishing things. They are talking to their neighbors, who in turn, are helping them to pull a wagon, milk a cow, mend a roof, wash laundry or cook a meal. And in this most basic form of communication, there is human contact. The simple act of just being with one another in the moment; the touch of a hand when someone needs that helping hand, the voice of wisdom that speaks the truth, the warmth of a smile when someone is downcast, the love that pours forth from a kiss.
I am not saying that I am willing to leave the modern world of communication behind, but I will remind myself to be in the moment with my loved ones. And if there is an opportunity to communicate why not just pick up the phone and say hello? :)
